German motoring publication, Sport Auto, has put together another one of its Supertest videos. This time taking the new BMW M3 Touring wagon around the Nurburbring.
With chief test driver and racing driver Christian Gebhardt behind the wheel, the new M3 Touring managed to lap the notoriously-unforgiving circuit in 7:34.39. Thatโs a cracking time given the car can also do the weekly shopping.
How does that compare with other vehicles? Well, Gebhardt has pitched the latest M4 Competition xDrive around the track in 7:28.57 in the past, featuring the same 375kW/650Nm 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six powertrain.
The M4 is a coupe and weighs about 90kg less than the wagon (1828kg vs 1738kg, tare). The weight balance is also slightly different between the two models, although they are both based on BMW’s CLAR platform.
In terms of other, non-BMW vehicles, the wagonโs time beats a Tesla Model S Plaid which has lapped the circuit in 7:35.57, according to Wikipedia’s Nurburgring lap time list. It also beats a McLaren 650S Spider (7:35), Ferrari 458 Italia (7:38), and Lexus LFA (7:38).
The BMW M3 Touring is on sale in Australia right now, priced from $180,100 (excluding on-roads). It offers 500L of boot space, expandable to 1510L, and it can sprint from 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.6 seconds.
