German engineering specialist Mechatronik has unveiled the M SEC, a heavily modernised, limited-production restomod based on the iconic Mercedes-Benz C126 S-Class coupe.
Built to celebrate the company’s 30th anniversary in 2027, the M SEC preserves the timeless pillarless design of Bruno Sacco’s original 1980s masterpiece while completely overhauling the underlying mechanicals. Production will be strictly capped at 30 units globally, with each vehicle individually configured and handcrafted to the buyer’s bespoke specifications.

Under the long bonnet, the original period engine has been swapped for Mercedes-AMG’s legendary M156 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8. The modern powertrain delivers 373kW (500hp) and 630Nm of torque, firing the 1712kg grand tourer from 0–100km/h in 4.2 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 250km/h.
For buyers seeking sharper dynamics, an optional GT-Package incorporates extensive carbon fibre bodywork – including the bumpers, front guards, and skirts – slashing the dry weight by 88kg down to 1624kg. By deleting the rear seats and fitting lighter components, the GT-Package drops the 0–100km/h sprint to a flat 4.0 seconds and lifts the top speed to 280km/h.

Handling has been entirely modernised in partnership with suspension specialist Ohlins, utilising a bespoke Dual Flow Valve (DFV) coilover setup tailored specifically to the M SEC’s weight and power.
Stopping duties are managed by a contemporary Brembo braking system featuring 360mm front and 330mm rear two-piece discs, which are upsized to 390mm at the front on GT-Package cars.

Visually, the restomod retains the classic C126 silhouette but integrates state-of-the-art Bi-LED lighting modules discreetly into the original narrow headlamp housings.
Inside, the cabin architecture remains familiar but features modern materials and a custom Mechatronik instrument cluster that subtly embeds a digital telemetry display within the classic analogue dials. Pricing for the highly exclusive 30-unit run has not been publicly disclosed.
