BMW has confirmed Australian pricing for the all-new fifth-generation X5, which will arrive locally in the fourth quarter of 2026 priced from $143,900 before on-road costs.
Two variants will initially be offered, starting with the X5 40d xDrive followed by the petrol-powered X5 40 xDrive. Both use inline-six engines paired with 48V mild-hybrid technology, an eight-speed automatic transmission and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
The 40d develops 230kW and 670Nm, while the 40 xDrive produces 294kW and 540Nm, with the latter completing the 0-100km/h sprint in a claimed 5.3 seconds and the diesel needing 6.1 seconds.
The fifth-generation X5 introduces a considerably different exterior design inspired by BMW’s Neue Klasse philosophy, including a more upright front end, vertical kidney grilles and new adaptive LED headlights featuring a double-X lighting signature. There are also substantial changes inside, led by BMW’s latest Panoramic iDrive interface and Operating System X.
A 17.9-inch central touch-screen is joined by BMW Panoramic Vision across the lower section of the windscreen, a 3D head-up display and a separate passenger display capable of handling entertainment and streaming functions.
Australian cars will come relatively well equipped from launch. Standard features include the M Sport Package, 21-inch wheels, Adaptive M Suspension, panoramic glass roof, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, soft-close doors and an 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system.
Driving Assistant Plus and Parking Assistant Professional are also standard, along with an emergency spare wheel. The new X5 remains a five-seater and offers up to 3500kg towing capacity, depending on specification.
BMW says the petrol and diesel versions are only the beginning for the new-generation Australian range. An X5 50e xDrive plug-in hybrid and the new fully electric BMW iX5 are scheduled to join the local lineup from the first quarter of 2027.
