Jaecoo J5 EV details confirmed for Australia, arrives January 2026

Jaecoo has locked in timing for Australia for its next all-electric SUV, as previously spotted, with the new J5 EV set to arrive in January 2026 in a single, fully loaded specification.

Rather than a multi-grade lineup, Jaecoo has opted for a one-variant strategy for Australia, with the Track positioned as a fully equipped model. Among its more unusual features is a pet-friendly interior trim, using a silicone-based synthetic leather material designed to be more resistant to wear and easier to clean than conventional upholstery.

Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels with Continental tyres, a power tailgate, vehicle-to-load functionality and remote start with climate memory. Exterior lighting is fully LED, while interior features include dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, acoustic glass for the front doors and a glass roof with a powered sunshade.

The cabin layout is dominated by digital displays, with an 8.8-inch instrument screen and a 13.2-inch central touch-screen handling most vehicle functions, including climate control and media. Wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, alongside voice control, a wireless phone charger and an eight-speaker audio system. A 360-degree camera system is also fitted as standard.

Power is provided by a single front-mounted electric motor producing 155kW and 288Nm – which seems to be the standard these days – with Jaecoo claiming 0–100km/h in 7.7 seconds.

Energy consumption is rated at 143Wh/km, while the driving range is listed at up to 402km on the WLTP cycle. DC fast charging (maxing out at just 80kW in overseas spec) allows a claimed 30-80 per cent recharge in 28 minutes – the battery size is mentioned for Australia, but overseas it is 61.1kWh. The J5 EV is also rated to tow up to 750kg for a non-braked trailer.

In terms of design, the J5 adopts a boxy, Range-Rover-esque SUV profile with EV-specific details such as an active front grille and full-width rear light bar. Inside, the approach is minimalist, with physical controls kept to a minimum as most functions are accessed through the central touch-screen.

Safety equipment includes seven airbags and a suite of driver assistance technologies such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, emergency lane keeping and forward collision warning.

The J5 EV will come backed by Jaecoo’s 8-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, along with eight years of capped-price servicing and battery coverage. Further details, including prices and full local specs, are expected closer to the J5 EV’s Australian on-sale date early next year.

UPDATE: Prices start from $35,990, however, there are drive-away deals going at the time of writing, advertised from $36,990 drive-away.
