Toyota has announced full details of the sixth-generation RAV4, set to launch in Australia in late Q1 2026, bringing the brand’s first plug-in hybrid powertrain for the local market and a wider range of trims aimed at offering something for every buyer.
The 2026 RAV4 lineup opens with the GX 2WD hybrid, expanding to the GXL, Edge, XSE, and flagship Cruiser, while the more powerful plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models will join the range later in 2026 in XSE and GR Sport guise (the first GR Sport for the RAV4).

Across the range, buyers can expect noticeable advancements in connectivity and safety. Even the base GX now features a 10.5-inch infotainment display, a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster, wireless smartphone mirroring, and Toyota’s latest Connected Services platform with over-the-air updates and integrated dashcam functionality.
All are underpinned by the latest suite of Toyota Safety Sense technologies, including autonomous emergency braking, lane trace assist, proactive driving assist, and an expanded cross-traffic alert system. All variants come with eight airbags as standard.

Power comes from a revised 2.5-litre petrol hybrid system for most models. It now produces 143kW for both FWD and AWD, unlike the outgoing model which offered 160kW and 163kW. That, as you probably noticed, is a decent drop in power over the outgoing model.
At the top sits the PHEV, comprising a 2.5-litre petrol and electric motors, generating up to 227kW in AWD form (the most powerful RAV4 ever), with the 2WD option in the XSE developing 200kW. A 22.7kWh battery enables electric-only driving and supports DC (50kW) and AC (11kW) charging.

Going for the GR Sport gets you bespoke chassis tuning, wider track, and performance-oriented suspension components for sharper handling. The RAV4 GR Sport also showcases various sporty design elements, including alloy wheels and unique front and rear bumper bars, with special highlights inside.
The new model goes on sale in the first quarter of 2026, with the plug-in hybrid variants joining in the third quarter. See below for the starting prices (excludes on-road costs):
