Jaecoo EJ5 (E5) spotted in Australia, new Range Rover clone

Jaecoo has been spotted testing the new EJ5 in Sydney, looking essentially like the J7 with its grille-delete EV face on a familiar silhouette with smoother panels, suggesting a local announcement could be imminent.

Overseas material gives us a clear read on what to expect. The EJ5 (badged as Jaecoo E5 abroad) runs a 61.1kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery feeding a single front motor rated at about 152kW and 287Nm, with a 0–100km/h claim of 7.7 seconds. The range is stamped at 399km (248 miles).

DC fast-charging peaks at 80kW with a stated 30–80 per cent window in 27 minutes, and vehicle-to-load functionality included.

Inside, there’s a 13.2-inch portrait touch-screen with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, five seats and a claimed 480L boot that expands to 1180L.

Australia already sells the closely-related Chery E5, which pairs a 61.1kWh LFP pack with a 150kW/340Nm front-mounted e-motor. It offers a WLTP range of 430km, and can sprint from 0-100km/h in 7.6 seconds. It also offers 80kW DC and 6.6–9.9kW AC charging.

On hardware and performance, the EJ5 and Chery E5 look essentially like-for-like, with Jaecoo’s EV adding V2L and claiming more cargo volume.

Jaecoo’s positioning pattern offers us a guide as to what to expect in terms of pricing, if the model does indeed enter the local market. In the combustion/hybrid aisle, the J7 opens at $34,990 drive-away, while Chery’s platform-mate Tiggo 7 Pro SE starts from $29,990 drive-away.

That’s roughly a 17 per cent uplift. At the plug-in end, the J7 SHS Summit sits at $47,990 drive-away versus the Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid’s $39,990 drive-away – about 20 per cent.

Apply that 17–20 per cent margin to the Chery E5’s local stickers of $36,990–$40,990 before on-roads, and you arrive at a reasonable EJ5 estimate in the $43k–$49k band (before on-roads). Consider it a working forecast until Jaecoo Australia makes any official announcements.

UK deliveries are slated to begin in October, which means, if it is destined for Australia, we could expect it by the end of the year. We reached out to Chery Australia for comment and will update this story with any details.

Update: Chery Australia said the J5 is scheduled to arrive locally during the start of 2026.
