Before its global rollout, Australian arcade racing fans are getting an exclusive first steer of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune Ignition. Driving Enthusiast was invited alongside a crowd of local aficionados to Timezone Haymarket in Sydney for the official preview launch.
The evening kicked off with speeches from Timezone’s CEO, followed by an address from the Japanese development team behind the iconic franchise. After a considerable wait, we finally slipped behind the wheel to sample the new machines.

Unsurprisingly, the physics remain decidedly arcade-focused and slightly cartoonish, rather than simulating the precision of a hardcore racing simulator. However, hustling the cars up to speed remains an incredibly rewarding loop, and pitching them into high-speed drifts is undeniably fun, so who cares.
Visually, the cabinet hardware has taken a massive step forward. The screens are razor-crisp, perfectly showcasing the vibrant, high-definition graphics. Tactile engagement is also strong; the physical manual gear shifter delivers a satisfying, mechanical feel that adds genuine weight to the experience.

Kane Fong, general manager at Timezone Australia, said: “We know how passionate the Wangan Midnight community is in Australia, so we’re incredibly excited that Timezone guests will be able to experience Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune Ignition ahead of its global launch.
“Whether you’re a long-time Maximum Tune racer or jumping behind the wheel for the first time, this is a fantastic opportunity to experience what’s next for the series.”

It is a great evolution of a staple arcade racer. Those with a Bandai Namco Passport are able to generate car data that can be transferred into the full release, so you can start now before the game officially launches.
If you want to sample it yourself, the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune Ignition preview is running exclusively at Timezone Haymarket from today, October 29, until Sunday, November 1, 2026.
