It’s great to see more and more performance wagons coming back onto the scene. And there’s an interesting new option coming to Australia in 2027, called the Exlantix ES GT.
Exlantix, although not the smoothest of names, is a sub-brand of Chery and it will be launching a couple of new models in Australia next year including a new ET medium-to-large SUV (also known as the EX7), and the ES GT.

Specifications and finer details are yet to be revealed let alone confirmed for Australia, but as far as we know the GT is set to offer up to 1700km of range from a 1.5-litre turbo range-extender, using three electric motors to propel the shooting brake from 0-100km/h in under 3.0 seconds.
Looking at an early pre-production model on show in Shanghai this weekend, the GT appears to wear Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tyres wrapped around 21-inch wheels, with a set of four-piston performance brakes hiding behind.

Inside, lots of Alcantara and carbon fibre (or carbon-look) trim, with a tiny sports steering wheel providing a clear view for the massive, full-width display that runs across the top of the dash. There’s also the typical tablet-style touch-screen stuck on the dash.
Sitting inside, it certainly feels sporty, and it seems to offer a decent amount of space. Although it is quite a low-slung vehicle and not an SUV, so those who enjoy the high-riding stance of an SUV or crossover might want to look elsewhere.

Up at the back is a nice big boot, however, it looks like the rear seat doesn’t offer a split-fold mechanism. This could be due to the display car being a pre-production model and perhaps not fully representative of what we will see in Australian showrooms.
Exlantix will be managed by Chery in Australia, with these first models set to arrive in the first half of 2027.
