2027 Nissan Navara Pro PHEV specs confirmed for Australia

Nissan has confirmed a new Navara Pro PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid) for Australia in 2027, featuring an Oceania-specific 300kW powertrain, mechanical four-wheel drive and 3500kg towing capacity.

It will become Nissan Australia’s first plug-in hybrid, as well as the company’s first electrified ute globally. Australia and New Zealand will also be the first right-hand drive markets to receive it.

Unlike the 1.5-litre turbo PHEV powertrain previously announced globally, the Australian model will use a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, following local testing of both configurations. Nissan says the larger engine was selected to better suit Australian requirements around towing, payload and sustained performance.

The petrol engine is paired with a high-output electric motor integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission, producing preliminary combined outputs of 300kW and 800Nm, subject to final homologation.

Importantly, Nissan hasn’t simply relied on electric motors to provide four-wheel drive. The Navara Pro PHEV retains a mechanical 4×4 system with low-range capability and a mechanical differential lock, while development work has included testing front, rear and combined differential-lock configurations.

Payload will reach approximately 1000kg, depending on final specification, and braked towing capacity is targeted at the segment-standard 3500kg.

Four drive modes – Eco, Standard, Sport and Slippery – are accompanied by seven terrain settings covering snow, mud, sand, rocks and wading, among others. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality will also be available for powering external equipment.

Australia has played a significant role in developing the new model. Five prototypes have so far accumulated more than 20,000km of local testing, covering areas including suspension, towing, tyres, ADAS calibration, drivetrain behaviour and differential-lock configurations.

Nissan is still evaluating the final suspension setup, having tested both leaf-spring and multi-link coil-spring rear configurations. The version selected for Australia will be announced closer to launch.

The five-seat dual-cab will also be available with a digital instrument cluster, large central touch-screen, panoramic sunroof and heated and ventilated front seats, depending on grade.

One major unanswered question is the battery. Nissan has not yet disclosed its capacity or EV-only driving range, with both to be announced closer to launch. Pricing and the complete Australian model lineup are also still to come.

The Nissan Navara Pro PHEV will arrive in Australia during 2027, adding an electrified alternative to the new-generation Navara range.
