MY2027 Jaecoo J7 update now on sale, 260kW AWD flagship added

Jaecoo has simplified its J7 medium SUV range for MY2027 in Australia, introducing a new all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid (PHEV) flagship, while retaining a $39,990 drive-away entry price.

The updated range consists of four variants, with the existing Ridge AWD petrol model and new Track SHS-P. Above those sits the Summit SHS-P 2WD, while a new Summit SHS-P AWD tops the range.

The biggest mechanical change is the addition of all-wheel drive to the plug-in hybrid. While the front-wheel drive SHS-P combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor for 205kW and 365Nm, the new AWD version adds a 113kW/210Nm electric motor to the rear axle. That lifts combined output to a substantial 260kW and 490Nm.

Interestingly, Jaecoo quotes the AWD model with a longer electric range than the 2WD. Both use an 18.4kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery, with claimed EV range listed at 80km for the 2WD and 100km for the AWD.

DC charging is supported at up to 40kW, with a 30-80 per cent recharge claimed to take around 20 minutes. Jaecoo quotes a combined petrol and electric driving range of up to 1200km.

The petrol-powered Ridge AWD continues with a 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder producing 137kW and 275Nm, connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Equipment has also been rearranged as part of the MY27 update. The entry Track SHS-P receives 19-inch aero wheels, a 13.2-inch infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in navigation and eight airbags.

Moving to the Summit brings a larger 14.8-inch touch-screen, heated and ventilated front seats, head-up display, 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, wireless phone charging and an eight-speaker Sony audio system.

The entry Ridge AWD also retains a strong standard equipment list, including a 14.8-inch touch-screen, panoramic roof, head-up display, heated and ventilated front seats, built-in dashcam and full-size spare wheel.

All J7 variants continue with Jaecoo’s eight-year/unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, while the plug-in hybrids receive the same coverage for their high-voltage battery. The MY27 Jaecoo J7 arrives in Australian dealerships during September, with the Track SHS-P following in October. See below for the starting prices (drive-away):

Ridge AWD: $39,990
Track SHS-P 2WD: $39,990
Summit SHS-P 2WD: $44,990
Summit SHS-P AWD: $47,990
