XPeng has confirmed the new L03 SUV coupe for Australia, with a starting price of just $41,900 and a choice of battery-electric and range-extender powertrains.
Four variants are being offered locally, including the Power-X Long Range (range-extender plug-in hybrid), which combines electric drive with a 1.5-litre petrol engine acting purely as a generator. The system produces 178kW and 280Nm, with an electric motor at the rear axle.
Energy comes from a 37kWh LFP battery and 45L fuel tank, providing an electric range of 215km (WLTP), while the petrol range extender increases total claimed range to just over 1000km (WLTP).
The petrol engine doesn’t mechanically drive the wheels, with propulsion remaining electric at all times. XPeng says an AI-based energy management system determines how the battery and range extender are used depending on driving conditions.
DC charging peaks at an impressive (for a PHEV) 123kW, with a 10-80 per cent recharge taking around 20 minutes. Interestingly, the company claims 0-100km/h in 6.8 seconds, or 8.7 seconds when the battery is down to 5 per cent state of charge.
The wider L03 range includes the RWD Standard Range, the RWD Long Range and the AWD Performance Ultra. These feature a 58.3kWh battery (for the base model) and 71.2kWh battery. Range is listed at 445km for the Standard Range, 520km for the Long Range, and 440km for the Performance Ultra.
Measuring 4650mm long, 1920mm wide and 1600mm tall, with a 2850mm wheelbase, it is slightly larger than the current Toyota RAV4. However, unlike a conventional SUV, the L03 adopts coupe-style SUV proportions with frameless doors and a claimed drag coefficient of 0.228.
Inside is a 15.6-inch central display, along with head-up display for the driver, and XPeng’s latest XOS 6 operating system. The L03 will also introduce the brand’s integration of Google Maps Auto SDK outside China.
XPeng’s next-generation NGP (autonomous driving) driver assistance technology is planned for a progressive Australian and New Zealand rollout from 2027, with the L03 carrying three Turing AI chips offering a combined computing capacity of up to 2250 TOPS.
Towing capacity is listed at up to 1500kg, with a 539L boot and 102L front boot under the bonnet (69L for the AWD model).
The new model is on sale now and interested punters can register their interest, however, ADR compliance and testing is ongoing. It is expected to be in showrooms and customer hands from November-December. See below for the starting prices (excluding on-road costs):
