Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the heavily updated 2026 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680, introducing a revised mild-hybrid V8 powertrain and significant chassis enhancements to its flagship luxury SUV.
Replacing the outgoing variant, the new GLS 680 is powered by the latest evolution of the manufacturer’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, designated M177 Evo. The unit operates alongside a second-generation 48-volt integrated starter-generator. This combination delivers a peak output of 450kW of power and 850Nm of torque, supported by a temporary electric boost of 17kW. Despite the substantial mass of the vehicle, fuel consumption is rated between 13.3L/100km and 13.7L/100km on the combined cycle, producing CO2 emissions of 304 to 312g/km.
To manage the vehicle’s dynamic behaviour, Mercedes has revised the steering system with a more direct ratio to improve responsiveness. Standard chassis hardware includes Airmatic air suspension featuring cloud-based predictive damping. This can be optionally upgraded to the E-Active Body Control system, which utilises five multi-core processors to individually adjust spring and damper forces at each wheel. In its dedicated curve mode, this hardware allows the vehicle to lean into corners by up to three degrees, reducing lateral forces acting on the occupants. Refinement is further enhanced by extensive acoustic insulation, including heavy engine cover mats and acoustic foam injected into body cavities.
Exterior visual updates include a redesigned front bumper, a new waterfall radiator grille with an illuminated surround, and revised LED headlights featuring rose-gold detailing. The profile is dominated by 23-inch forged alloy wheels equipped with gravity-driven, self-levelling centre caps that remain perfectly upright while in motion.
Inside, the dashboard is now dominated by the MBUX Superscreen layout, integrating a digital instrument cluster and dual infotainment displays beneath a single continuous glass surface. The rear passenger compartment retains its executive focus, adding a new calf-massage function to the rear seats and expanding the Burmester 3D surround sound system to a 15-speaker, 710-Watt configuration.
Global order books for the model will open in late July 2026, with subsequent market rollouts to follow. Australian pricing is yet to be confirmed.
