Subaru Australia has confirmed it will soon launch the Uncharted fully electric small SUV locally, offering a similar twin-motor system as the Solterra but in a smaller package.
The Uncharted is essentially an electric version of the new Toyota C-HR, underpinned by its e-TNGA platform. It features a 74.7kWh CATL battery sending energy to two electric motors, combining to produce an impressive 252kW.
Subaru suggests a 0-100km/h time of an “estimated” 5.0 seconds, but we think it’ll be slightly quicker than that given we’ve tested the bigger and likely heavier Solterra in 4.87 seconds, also with 252kW.
Being a Subaru, the Uncharted is being marketed as an off-road-capable vehicle, offering 211mm of ground clearance, and coming equipped with X-Mode and downhill assist control. Although, the 20-inch alloy wheels and low profile tyres will probably limit its abilities somewhat.
Inside, passengers get to play with a 14-inch touch-screen system, and there’s dual wireless phone chargers like in the Solterra, along with some physical controls to minimise distraction while driving. Speaking about the new model, Subaru Australia general manager, Scott Lawrence, said:
“Uncharted has been engineered from the ground up as a true driver’s car – sharp, responsive and incredibly rewarding behind the wheel. It doesn’t just take on a corner; it invites you to push further. This is a vehicle that brings a new level of excitement and fun to the Subaru lineup.”
That sounds like a copy-and-paste quote from a WRX STI launch from 20 years ago. Even so, it will come in as one of its quickest vehicles ever. It’ll also boast a WLTP range of 522km, which is decent for the small electric SUV class.
More details and range specs will be announced soon, with market entry planned for mid-2026. It’ll join the Solterra and upcoming Trailseeker to round out Subaru’s electric vehicle lineup.
