Mercedes-Maybach has joined the SL line-up for the first time, with the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 now on sale in Australia from $463,900, before on-road costs.
The headline is familiar AMG hardware with a Maybach brief layered over the top. There’s a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 430kW and 800Nm, fed through 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive and a nine-speed ‘SPEEDSHIFT MCT’ transmission.

Mercedes-Maybach claims 0–100km/h is taken care of in 4.1 seconds, while promising a softer calibration than an SL 63, with chassis tuning aimed at ride isolation and low-speed refinement rather than chasing lap times.
Alongside the powertrain, the SL 680 adds active ride control, dynamic engine mounts, an electronically controlled rear diff, and front suspension lift for steep driveways. There’s also rear-wheel steering, with up to 2.5 degrees of angle to reduce the “big car” feel at parking speeds.

Visually, the Maybach treatment is clear; a Maybach-specific grille, an Obsidian Black bonnet, and 21-inch forged wheels (a multi-spoke design is optional).
Two launch finishes called out by Mercedes are Garnet Red and Opalite White Magno, while MANUFAKTUR Exclusive paint opens more than 50 exterior colours for Australian orders. Buyers can also specify a body-coloured bonnet, or an optional Maybach bonnet pattern applied using Mercedes’ PixelPaint process.

Inside, it’s Nappa leather, a ‘DINAMICA’ microfibre roofliner, and Maybach-specific trim. Tech includes an 11.9-inch MBUX display with augmented-reality navigation and 5G, plus wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A Burmester 3D sound system (17 speakers, 1220W), head-up display and 64-colour ambient lighting are standard.
Options include the patterned bonnet ($16,900), MANUFAKTUR paint ($24,300), and 21-inch multi-spoke wheels ($12,900). It’s on sale now.
