2025 Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 revealed

The three-pointed star’s most aristocratic division, Mercedes-Maybach, has lent its Midas touch to the SL, resulting in a luxury-themed two-seat roadster.

Available in two colour themes, red and black (Red Ambience), or White Ambience, the 2025 Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 is powered by the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 generating 424kW and 800Nm, fed through a nine-speed automatic, with a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.

It features a comfort-oriented suspension tune, soft engine mounts, extensive insulation and noise absorption and a “noise optimised” exhaust that will hush the otherwise muscular rumble of the V8 engine. All of this adds significant weight to the vehicle, which, while not specified, contributes to a slower 0-100km/h time of 4.1 seconds versus 3.6s of the base vehicle.

Other exterior accoutrements include an ornate chrome and illuminated grille with vertical slats, rose gold accents spattered throughout and elegant 21-inch forged alloy wheels.

It’s the interior that distinguishes a Mercedes-Maybach from its lowly siblings however, and the SL 680 does not disappoint. White Nappa leather with stainless steel pedals and door sills raise the sophistication of the cabin, as well as an adjustable touch-screen and a bespoke steering wheel.

Unique graphics for the instrument panel and ‘Maybach’ logos also remind the buyer they are in rarefied company. Those logos can also be printed on the bonnet, reflecting under light.

No word of pricing at this stage, but we expect it would be suitably dearer than its Mercedes-AMG SL 63 donor car.
