GAC will soon introduce another model in Australia, called the Aion UT. It’s a fully electric compact electric car, ready to take on the likes of the BYD Atto 1.
The local arm has released some details about the interior, which has been designed by its design centre in Milan, Italy. It showcases a fairly typical layout, with a clean dash void of many physical buttons.

However, it’s all about space efficiency so you should be able to pack big things into this small package. In fact, boot space is measured at 440 litres and expands to 1600L with the rear seats folded. That’s not far off a largish small-to-medium SUV.
GAC says the UT also offers 905mm of rear legroom thanks to a 2750mm wheelbase. And you get climate vents in the back, which is quite rare for a small car like this.

While Australian specs are yet to be officially announced, the Aion UT is offered with a 50.3kWh battery and 60kWh battery overseas, with a front-mounted electric motor producing 100kW and 145Nm, or an impressive 150kW and 210Nm.
It also offers DC charging at up to 130kW, and a 0-100km/h sprint in around 11.9 seconds or as little as 7.3 seconds. Again, Aussie specs are yet to be locked in. Range figures are around 350km and 400km, depending on the battery option.
More details and prices will be announced in the coming weeks, with an arrival planned for the second quarter. Will it come in as the cheapest EV on sale, undercutting the $23,990 BYD Atto 1? We’ll have to wait and see.
