BMW Australia is announcing some mid-life updates for its X1 and X2 range, including introducing a plug-in hybrid option for the X1, and a switch to mild-hybrid power for the X1 and X2 base models.
Starting with the X1, a new variant called the xDrive25e is being introduced, featuring a 14.2kWh battery that offers an electric range of 78-86km. The system, combined with a three-cylinder engine, produces 180kW combined and does the 0-100km/h dash in a claimed 6.8 seconds.

While introducing this new variant, BMW is dropping the iX1 eDrive20 base fully electric model, leaving just the iX1 xDrive30. The regular X1 sDrive20i also switches to a mild-hybrid three-cylinder engine to conform with newer EU6e emissions regulations.
Essentially, the X1 sDrive18i and X2 xDrive20i are replaced by sDrive20i badges and a 48V mild-hybrid powertrain. That means there is no more X1 xDrive20i as well. The new engine produces 125kW and 280Nm.
Meanwhile, the M35i M Performance variant for both X1 and X2 continue on, however, a new petrol particulate filter has been add. This sees power reduced by 12kW, to 221kW. They continue to develop 400Nm.

Lastly, the fully electric iX1 and iX2 range will switch to new silicon carbide inverters. BMW says this move helps increase battery range and enhance performance, while improving power density. Called the xDrive30 in both, they produce 230kW and 494Nm.
