There’s a new electric sedan on the horizon, in the form of the Kia EV4 Sedan. Prices and specs for Australia have just been confirmed.
Three main variants will make up the local range, spanning from the Air, Earth, to the top GT-Line. All are powered by a single electric motor at the front axle, for front-wheel drive.

However, the Earth and the GT-Line use an 81.4kWh battery providing a range of 612km, while the base Air uses a 58.3kWh battery that offers 456km range. The electric motor produces 150kW and 283Nm, good for 0-100km/h in 7.4 seconds in the Air and 7.8 seconds in the Earth and GT-Line.
Like most Kia models to hit Australian showrooms, the EV4 underwent local testing and tuning, and uses a unique ride and handling setting to suit our conditions. The full extent of the local specifications are yet to be confirmed.

Underneath, the EV4 rides on Hyundai-Kia’s E-GMP architecture, like most of the wider group’s EVs. Although, the EV4 adopts the 400V layout like the EV3 and Hyundai Elexio, as opposed to the 800V system featured in vehicles such as the EV6, EV9 and Hyundai IONIQ 5.
According to the online brochure found on Kia Australia’s website, the Air weighs 1805kg and the Earth and GT-Line weigh 1912kg. Both figures are relatively light for an EV, although some EVs with twin motors and AWD are even lighter.

All variants offer V2L charging capability, and all offer 11kW AC charging or up to 350kW charging with DC power. Charge times are 55min with a 50kW DC charger in the Air, and 79min in the others. With a 350kW charger, the times are slashed to 29min and 31min, for the 58kWh and 81kWh systems.
As standard, all variants come with twin 12.3-inch displays across the dash, with a 5.0-inch screen for the climate controls. Dual-zone climate, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Kia Connect are also standard.

Going for the GT-Line adds an eight-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system (up from six), as well as bespoke 19-inch wheels, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charger, and a sunroof, among other things.
