MG MG3 safety recall issued, driver’s seat could slide forward in crash

Another kick in the guts for MG’s little-y as the MG3 is being recalled for an errant driver’s seat which can slide forward in the event of a head-on collision, or other crash.

Euro NCAP conducted testing earlier this year, resulting in the manual driver’s seat moving forward by 111.5mm, which puts the legs closer to the front of the car. This could pose a risk of increased injury to the driver.

The recall affects MG3 models built between March 6, 2024, and July 30, 2025. Fixing the concern will take up to 30 minutes at your local dealer, so make sure you give their coffee machine a workout.

2025 MG MG3

The second-generation MG3’s (including MG3 Hybrid+) was given a three-star ANCAP crash rating in 2024, prompting a raft of safety upgrades this year, which included a centre head airbag between the driver and passenger and revised seatbelt pre-tensioners. The net result of this was an upgrade to four stars.

Sales have been flagging with 615 units moved to the end of September 2025 (VFACTS). This compares to 958 for the same time last year, with overall sales of the Light Car Segment down by 24.5 per cent year-to-date.

We’ve reviewed the current MG3 in both petrol and hybrid form, coming away impressed with the latter – it beat the factory 0-100km/h claim by a whole second in our testing and was fun to drive.

Perhaps a proper hot hatch version of the MG3 could re-ignite interest in the hatch? You can read ANCAP’s full safety report on the MG3 here.
