Nissan reveals new Skyline 400R limited edition in Japan

The penultimate edition of the V37 series Nissan Skyline has been unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show as the Nissan Skyline 400R Limited.

Bearing a name derived from one of the Skyline’s most hallowed variants, the 1997 R33 Nismo 400R, the new 400R Limited will be, ahem, limited to 400 units of production.

It gets a carbon fibre ducktail spoiler, unique 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT 600 tyres, sturdier brake pads, 4 per cent stiffer front and 44 per cent stiffer rear suspension, and a 298kW/475Nm twin-turbo V6 – some 11kW down on the 309kW output of the Nismo Z with the same engine.

This special edition is showcased in a new Wangan Blue colour, which is a colour-shifting blue also featured on the Nissan Z sports car. Pricing is set at ¥ 6,935,500, or AU$69,029 after a straight conversion.

As far as we know, the next-generation Q50/Skyline is said to return with a six-speed manual transmission in 2027. This came from a pretty strong source, with the car apparently shown at a US Infiniti dealer’s meeting.

Given that Infiniti closed up its Australian operations in 2020, grey imports of this 400R or the next-generation model are the best chance of ever seeing them under Aussie skies.
