GWM Haval H7 confirmed for Australia, price from $46,990

GWM has confirmed details for its latest medium SUV, the all-new Haval H7, ahead of its arrival in Australia next month. The new model slots somewhere in between the H6 and the Tank 300, showcasing an interesting and rugged design with a potent hybrid powertrain.

Offered exclusively in Vanta trim, the H7 adopts a distinctive all-black treatment, with blacked-out badging, grille, and trim highlights, giving the upright and squared-off proportions a sporty and sinister theme. Overseas, it’s called the Big Dog, and it is based on a platform with an unfortunate name, called LEMON.

Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbocharged hybrid producing a combined 179kW and 530Nm. Matched with front-wheel drive and a dedicated hybrid transmission, GWM claims combined fuel consumption of 5.7L/100km. The setup is designed to deliver smooth, responsive performance in urban environments while maintaining strong efficiency and usability for family road trips or weekend escapes.

Inside, the H7 offers a roomy five-seat layout, made possible by its boxy silhouette. Highlights include a removable boot floor that can double as a picnic table, a panoramic sunroof, and an array of tech including a digital instrument display, head-up display, and a 14.6-inch touch-screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The brand also promises premium soft-touch materials and multiple storage solutions aimed at active lifestyles.
