Giamaro Automobili Katla debuts with 1586kw quad-turbo V12

The mighty V12 engine is becoming a dying breed in this era. Gone are the days where they powered Mercedes-AMG S-Class flagships and BMW’s top 7 Series to show dominance. They have now become the domain of exclusive hypercar territory.

A newcomer is joining the ranks in the form of the Giamaro Automobili Katla, with eye-watering figures. A 7.0-litre, quad-turbo V12 is said to produce some 1228kW and 1556Nm, with the company saying it can wind the wick up to 1586kW (2128hp) and 2008Nm – enough torque to make a RAM 2500 or Silverado 2500 look piss-weak.

Sending power to the rear wheels is an 11-speed dual-clutch auto with a limited-slip differential. Yes, this thing is rear-wheel drive.

The Katla is 4791mm long, with a 2750mm wheelbase and features staggered 20- and 21-inch alloy wheels shod with Bridgestone Potenza Sport tyres, measuring 265/35ZR20 and 345/30ZR21.

With a carbon fibre chassis weighting just 170kg, the complete car allegedly has a kerb weight of 1450kg, with 42:58 front-to-rear weight distribution.

Another model in the form of the ‘Albor’ has also been shown in a barren Mars-esque landscape. The car appears to be similar in philosophy to the Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato. The name is derived from the Albor Tholus volcano on the red planet.
