Although EVs are on the nose to traditional car enthusiasts, it’s no secret there are some which demand attention and respect, such as the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, featured in our top 10 fastest EVs in the world feature.
Now one of the sleekest and arguably best-engineered electric cars has an SUV companion; the Xiaomi YU7. With a length of 4999mm, width of 1996mm, 1608mm of height and a precise 3000mm wheelbase, the YU7 closely resembles the Ferrari Purosangue in both dimensions and styling.
The SUV features a cab-reward stance, swept back five-spoke alloy wheels and similar headlamps to the SU7, but the side sill graphics, black wheel arch flairs and mirrors look like a straight lift from the Italian SUV.
In top dual-motor trim, the YU7 Max actually eclipses the Purosangue across 0-100km/h, doing it in 3.2 seconds – 0.1s faster. It features a 101.7kWh battery and offers a very impressive 770km of range (CLTC) . With a total output of 508kW and 866Nm, this is brutal enough to rub shoulders with the big boys.
Other variants include an entry-level, single motor version with 235kW/528Nm with a 96.3kWh battery back, and a 0-100km/h time of 5.9 seconds (CLTC range of 835km). In the middle, the YU7 Pro dual-motor ups the ante to 365kW/690Nm with 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds and 835km CTLC range.
The interior features a HyperVision Panoramic Display, which spans the length of the dash without exceeding vision beyond the bonnet line. This will no doubt become a popular trend in coming EVs. It is augmented by a 16.1-inch infotainment display.
Other interior amenities include 10-point massaging, zero gravity seats, and a rear bench that can tilt to 135-degrees. As per the Xiamoi SU7, a very sophisticated array of LiDAR, radar, cameras and ultrasonic sensors make for a very sophisticated ADAS and autonomous driving suite.
Sadly, there’s no word on Australian availability, but we would expect a complement to the SU7 Ultra hyper-sedan to appear in due course to send the Purosangue to the dog food factory.
