The latest round of ANCAP safety testing, following assessment of Euro NCAP crash test data, has seen both the 2025 Geely EX5 and the 2025 BYD Sealion 7 achieve the full five-star rating.
These new SUVs recently joined the Aussie market, both coming in with fully electric powertrains. ANCAP’s chief executive officer, Carla Hoorweg, offered the following statement:
“As electrified vehicles continue to advance technologically, it’s encouraging to see equal investment in safety, ensuring that innovation and the protection of drivers, passengers and families go hand in hand.”
The Geely EX5 scored exceptionally well, with 86 per cent for Adult Occupant Protection, 87 percent for Child Occupant Protection, a very impressive 83 per cent for Vulnerable Road User Protection (pedestrians, cyclists, motorbikes) and 85 per cent for Safety Assist.
Meanwhile, the BYD Sealion 7 outdid its compatriot with Adult and Child Occupant Protection scores of 87 and 93 per cent, respectively, but at 76 per cent for Vulnerable Road User, it isn’t as kind to pedestrians or cyclists. A 78 per cent Safety Assist score is decent but trails the Geely.
