Kia Australia has officially announced the price of its all-new, all-controversial Tasman dual-cab ute range, revealing a highly competitive entry point of $42,990 for the entry model, with the flagship topping out at $74,990 (excluding on-roads). Pre-orders are now open, with showroom arrivals scheduled for July.
Described as the most Australian-focused Kia model ever developed, the Tasman has been shaped with significant local input and is set to shake up the fiercely contested ute segment. The lineup will initially launch with dual-cab ute models, with cab-chassis variants to follow in August. A single cab-chassis is due late 2025.
Built on a new ladder-frame platform, the Tasman is offered in five distinct trim levels; S, SX, SX+, X-Line and X-Pro, with 4×2 and 4×4 layouts. The work-ready base models promise over 1000kg of payload, while the top-spec X-Pro 4×4 maintains a robust 1013kg payload despite its long equipment list.
All variants are rated to tow up to 3500kg with a braked trailer, supported by an integrated trailer brake controller and dedicated Towing Mode with trailer sway control. Across the board, Tasman models share a 3250kg gross vehicle mass (GVM) and 6200kg gross combination mass (GCM).
Dual-cab models also boast impressive practicality, with a segment-leading tub volume of 1173 litres – large enough to accommodate a full Australian pallet. All are powered by a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, producing 154kW and 440Nm, matched to an eight-speed automatic with a dual-range transfer case.
Inside, the rear seats in X-Line and X-Pro models recline and slide, while also revealing a 45-litre hidden storage area under the bench – as seen in some of the big American pickup trucks. A fold-out centre console table and dual wireless phone charging further enhance versatility.
Tech features include a wide-format panoramic display system with twin 12.3-inch driver and multimedia screens, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Kia Connect services and OTA updates. Upholstery varies by grade, with higher trims getting full artificial leather.
As for the design, well, we’ll leave that up to you to decide… we think it’s the ugliest ute on the market. But maybe some buyers in this segment want something a bit different to stand out from the crowd. Prices start from the following (excluding on-roads):
