Subaru has officially confirmed that its all-new Forester will arrive in Australia mid-year, featuring both petrol and hybrid powertrain options. The announcement follows the global debut of the next-generation model at the 2025 Chicago Auto Show.
The new Forester will be the first Subaru model in Australia to introduce the brand’s latest hybrid system, dubbed the Forester ‘Strong Hybrid’. It pairs a 2.5-litre flat-four engine with an electric motor and Subaru’s signature Symmetrical all-wheel drive, aiming to deliver improved efficiency without compromising the SUV’s capability.
Subaru says the hybrid system enhances driving range while maintaining the Forester’s low centre of gravity and composed handling. Total system output is rated at 145kW in overseas form, which is a nice chunk more than the lacklustre 110kW seen in the outgoing Forester Hybrid 2.0L.
As standard, the 2025 Forester will feature the latest EyeSight driver assist technology, alongside an 11.6-inch tablet-style multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher variants also gain a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Built with adventure in mind, the Forester Hybrid comes equipped with X-Mode, hill descent control, active torque vectoring, and vehicle dynamics control. Its 220mm of ground clearance surpasses many competitors while still offering a low step-in height for easy entry. Scott Lawrence, general manager of Subaru Australia, said:
“Inspired by six generations of adventure this next generation Forester features a bold rugged design, with the confidence of symmetrical all-wheel drive and renowned X-Mode. It’s built to take you from city streets to untamed trails with ease.”
Further details on the 2025 Forester lineup will be released closer to launch in the middle of this year. Interested buyers can register their interest at Subaru’s official website.
