Subaru Australia has officially pulled the covers off its sixth-generation Forester at this year’s Melbourne Motor Show, giving the local public its first look ahead of its mid-2025 showroom arrival.
Now in its sixth iteration, the Forester aims to continue its legacy as one of Australia’s most trusted mid-size SUVs. One of the headline changes is the arrival of Subaru’s next-generation hybrid system – dubbed e-Boxer – marking the first time this powertrain has been offered in an Australian Subaru model.
It pairs the familiar 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an 88kW electric motor and compact battery, integrated through a CVT auto to deliver improved economy and seamless low-speed performance. Subaru says the hybrid offers a combined driving range of over 1000km per tank. Fuel consumption figures are yet to be confirmed.
For those who prefer traditional power, the updated 2.5-litre petrol-only flat-four remains available across multiple grades. Both powertrains come standard with Subaru’s all-wheel drive and X-Mode for improved grip in slippery or off-road conditions.
Visually, the new Forester introduces a tougher stance with a redesigned front grille, prominent wheel arches, and C-shaped LED lighting. A taller ride height – 220mm of ground clearance – remains a core strength, while premium models add features like a kick-sensor tailgate and lower profile roof rails.
Inside, the cabin is more connected and user-focused, headlined by an 11.6-inch touch-screen with wireless smartphone mirroring, and available upgrades such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a premium Harman Kardon sound system. Touring variants step things up further with seat ventilation, leather and Ultrasuede trim, and gloss black exterior finishes.
Safety continues to be a priority, with Subaru’s latest EyeSight system now incorporating a wider-angle camera and Emergency Driving Stop. Other highlights include reverse auto braking, a 360-degree camera, and nine airbags as standard across the range.
Customers will have seven well-equipped variants to choose from, including both petrol and hybrid options, with the Hybrid Sport and Touring variants adding new suspension tuning and 19-inch alloy wheels in unique finishes.
Pricing and full specifications will be confirmed closer to launch. In the meantime, Subaru is encouraging interested buyers to register their interest on the Subaru website.
