2025 Volkswagen Tiguan on sale in Australia in May, specs confirmed

Volkswagen is set to introduce the all-new, third-generation 2025 Tiguan in Australia in May, bringing a blend of premium materials, advanced technology, and enhanced practicality to the competitive medium SUV segment.

With styling and interior appointments inspired by the flagship Touareg, the latest Tiguan promises a more refined and feature-rich package while maintaining strong value across the range.

The lineup starts with the 110TSI Life and 110TSI Elegance, both powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder producing 110kW and 250Nm. Standard features include a 12.9-inch touch-screen with sat-nav, a 360-degree camera system, digital driver display, wireless smartphone connectivity, and Volkswagen’s Travel Assist, which integrates adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping technology.

The Elegance variant steps up with LED Plus headlights, leather-appointed upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and an illuminated grille strip. Acceleration across 0-100km/h takes a claimed 9.2 seconds.

For those seeking all-wheel drive and greater performance, the Tiguan 150TSI Elegance and 150TSI R-Line introduce a 2.0-litre turbo engine with 150kW and 320Nm, replacing the outgoing 132TSI and 162TSI models. Acceleration across 0-100km/h takes a claimed 7.1 seconds.

The Elegance trim comes with high-end features such as a Harman Kardon premium audio system, a 15-inch Discover Pro Max infotainment display, adaptive chassis control (DCC Pro), and HD Matrix LED headlights. As for the R-Line variant, traditionally the most popular Tiguan specification, it adds a sportier look with an R-Line bodykit, 19-inch alloy wheels, progressive steering, and bolstered sports seats with integrated headrests.

At the top of the range, the Tiguan 195TSI R-Line takes over from the outgoing Tiguan R, offering a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 195kW and 400Nm, capable of 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds. This flagship model blends dynamic performance with luxury, featuring 20-inch alloy wheels, head-up display, ventilated and massaging front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the latest driver assistance systems.

Volkswagen has also made improvements to the Tiguan’s practicality, with a slightly longer body and a more flexible second row of seats, built on VW’s latest MQB Evo platform. Boot space has increased by 37 litres to 652 litres with the seats up, expanding to 1650L when folded. Aerodynamics have also been optimised, with a reduced drag coefficient from 0.33 to 0.28, contributing to improved efficiency.

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan is expected to appeal to a wider audience in Australia thanks to its wide range of variants and powertrains, while offering more refinement and technology than the outgoing model. Prices and final specs will be confirmed closer to its launch in May.
