BYD has revealed the new Sealion 7 in Australia, at LIV Golf Adelaide 2025. This is the fully electric SUV cousin to the Sealion 6 hybrid.
Positioned as a mid-size electric SUV, the Sealion 7 showcases the design expertise of Wolfgang Egger, complemented by BYD’s Blade Battery system, and a range of up to 482km (WLTP). Two variants are going on sale in Australia, including the Premium and the Performance.

Powering the Premium is a Blade Battery that sends energy to a rear-mounted electric motor, producing 230kW. Using the WLTP test cycle, the entry version offers a range of 482km. Acceleration from 0-100km/h is claimed in 6.7 seconds. However, it is a heavy unit, weighing 2225kg, according to BYD’s website.
Going for the Performance variant adds an extra motor to the front axle to create all-wheel drive. It offers a 0-100km/h claim of 4.5 seconds, and a range of 456km. Maximum power is listed at an impressive 390kW. It weighs 2340kg.

Standard features include a 15.6-inch central touch-screen media interface, as well as a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster. It also comes with sound-proof, double-glazed windows for the windscreen and front doors, according to the BYD website. However, some areas are blanked out on the website, so final specs might not be finalised yet.

There’s no mention of the boot capacity but judging by the photos (which seem to be angled to optimise the perception of space), it doesn’t look that large compared with some rivals. EVDirect (distributor for BYD in Australia) CEO David Smitherman spoke about the new model, saying:
“The mid-size SUV segment is a crucial one, representing 23% of all vehicles sold in Australia and forming part of the broader 57% share held by SUVs. Today, we’re proud to introduce our latest innovation: the all-new, fully electric BYD Sealion 7.”

The BYD Sealion 7 is available to order online now, with prices starting from the following (excluding on-road costs):
2025 BYD Sealion 7 Premium RWD 230kW: $54,990
