Rolls-Royce creates one-off Phantom Dragon for Chinese client

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has revealed a one-of-one Phantom Dragon. It’s a bespoke masterpiece commissioned by a Chinese client through the brand’s Private Office in Shanghai. This unique creation serves as a tribute to the Year of the Dragon and the centenary of the Phantom nameplate.

At the heart of the Phantom Dragon is a reinterpretation of an ancient Chinese legend involving two dragons and a pearl, symbolising power, good fortune, and the harmony of Yin and Yang. These motifs are artfully incorporated throughout the vehicle, starting with the intricate gallery marquetry on the fascia.

Crafted from 297 individual pieces and four wood species, the artwork portrays dragons in swirling clouds, guarding a pearl represented by the bespoke clock. The delicate craftsmanship took three months to complete, using materials like smoked eucalyptus and sycamore veneer to create a striking three-dimensional effect.

The design continues with contrasting Ardent Red and black leather upholstery, complemented by exquisite smoked eucalyptus wood finishes. A set of ‘Serenity seats’ feature the commissioning client’s family name embroidered in ancient Chinese calligraphy, adding a personal touch. Above, the Starlight Headliner captures an abstract depiction of two dragons with 1344 fibre-optic lights, including shooting stars.

The Phantom Dragon’s exterior is finished in Iced Diamond Black, which is a shimmering satin hue that underscores the vehicle’s premium and regal character. This design pays homage to Chinese culture while reflecting Rolls-Royce’s commitment to bespoke customisation.

This extraordinary commission marks another chapter in Rolls-Royce’s legacy of creating one-of-a-kind motor cars.
