Deepal S07 electric SUV arrives in Australia, price from $53,900

Yep, another new electric SUV has hit the market in Australia. This one is from a new Chinese brand called Deepal, called the S07.

Just the single variant is launching, at least for now, packed with features and technology. The mid-size SUV, designed in Italy under Bertrand Bach, is based on Changan’s EPA1 platform and features an 80kWh battery.

That provides a range of 475km on the WLTP test cycle, feeding energy to a single electric motor at the rear axle (RWD). Producing 160kW and 320Nm, the S07 offers a claimed 0-100km/h time of 7.9 seconds.

Inside, passengers are treated to a massive 15.6-inch tilting touch-screen offering Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, with voice control, a 360-degree parking camera, and premium 14-speaker Sony sound system.

Also standard is a high-speed 40W wireless phone charger, 64-colour interior lighting options, power front seats with heating and ventilation, gesture control, an in-built dash cam, and all of the latest safety systems. ANCAP is yet to test the new model.

Deepal’s Australian arm is offering a special deal for buyers until January 31, 2025, offering free public charging from the EVIE network for 12 months. This is valid only for orders placed and delivered by January 31.

Speaking of charging, the S07’s 79.97kWh battery offers a max charging rate of 92kW with DC power, which isn’t that good compared with other EVs. It means charging from 10-80 per cent takes around 50 minutes at max capability. It offers AC charging at up to 11kW, and vehicle-to-load functionality (max 3.3kWh).

The new model measures 4750mm in length, 1930mm in width, and stands 1625mm tall, making it 135mm longer, 65mm wider, and 65mm lower than a current Toyota RAV4, for example. Speaking about the new model, Deepal general manager in Australia, Cormac Cafolla, said:

“With the first vehicles arriving, we’re delighted to commence customer deliveries and see the first of many Deepal S07s in the driveways of Australian households, and to be able to offer consumers the opportunity to test drive and experience the S07 for themselves.”

Deepal now has vehicles available for test drivers in Australia, with four retail outlets, including in Parramatta and North Shore in Sydney, and Melbourne City and Doncaster in Victoria. Plenty of stock has arrived. Prices start from $53,900 (excluding on-road costs).
