Hyundai has unveiled a special edition version of its i30 Sedan N – called Elantra N overseas – which helps celebrate its recent triumphs in TCR racing. Meet the TCR Edition.
Based on the awesome i30 Sedan N, the TCR Edition brings across some modifications clearly inspired by the TCR racing version. For starters, there’s a huge carbon fibre wing on the back with top-mounting swan-neck brackets offering some adjustment settings. This replaces the usual boot spoiler on the standard model.
Replacing the standard 19-inch alloy wheels are a set of N TCR Forged wheels presenting a unique Y-spoke pattern, again, inspired by the racing car. These hide N Performance brakes for additional circuit endurance and stopping power.
To give the sports sedan a unique look, Hyundai is also offering a complete exterior decal pack, with giant N symbols on the sides, paired with white-painted wheels. However, the global website says this is only available in Korea, at least for now.
Inside, passengers are treated to Performance Blue seat belts to match the iconic exterior colour, while the driver gets to enjoy a bespoke steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara, with a centre marker in Performance Blue. The same twin-screen dash setup remains from the standard model.
Power also comes from the same fire-cracking 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder as the regular model, producing 206kW and 392Nm. This can be paired to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, feeding into a front-wheel drive system with a limited-slip diff.
The best 0-100km/h we’ve timed is 5.60 seconds, with the quarter mile coming up in 13.88 seconds at 169.7km/h. It remains as one of the quickest factory front-wheel drive cars we’ve ever tested, with the hatchback clocking a 0-100km/h time of just 5.19 seconds.
We reached out to Hyundai Australia to ask if the TCR Edition is heading to local showrooms any time soon. The local division said: “The special edition is under evaluation for Australia, but it has not been confirmed as yet.”
