2025 Mazda CX-80 on sale in Australia from $54,950

If you thought Mazda’s SUV lineup was confusing, you might want to look away now. Another new model is arriving soon called the CX-80, which will come in as a kind of seven-seat version of the CX-60, but below the CX-90.

Mazda describes the CX-80 as its first entry into the seven-seat hybrid SUV market in Australia. And that’s because it will come with a range of mild-hybrid six-cylinder petrol and diesel options, as well as a four-cylinder plug-in hybrid, just like the CX-60. You could think of it as like a modern replacement to the old CX-8.

The top-tier option is the CX-80 PHEV, which combines a 2.5-litre Skyactiv-G petrol engine with a 129kW electric motor, developing a total of 241kW and 500Nm. The PHEV can travel up to 65km on electric power alone, with fuel consumption rated at 2.7L100km on the official cycle. Charging the battery from 20-80 per cent takes 90 minutes using a 7.2kW AC charger.

Two other engine options will be available as well, including the now-familiar 3.3-litre turbo-petrol inline-six ‘e-Skyactiv G’ producing 209kW/450Nm, as well as the e-Skyactiv D diesel version generating 187kW/550Nm. Both use mild-hybrid technology to boost efficiency, with the diesel consuming just 5.2L/100km on the combined cycle. The petrol is rated at 8.4L/100km. All models in the range feature an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-biased all-wheel drive system.

Like with other model lines in the showroom, Mazda Australia is launching the CX-80 in four main trim levels; Pure, Touring, GT, and Azami. Standard features in the entry-level Pure include 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch widescreen display with Mazda Connect, a 360-degree monitor, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add a 12.3-inch display, panoramic sunroof, and a premium 12-speaker Bose sound system.

In terms of safety tech, all come with Smart Brake Support, blind-spot monitoring, and front cross-traffic alert. All feature integrated Mazda Connected Services as well, which allows owners to monitor vehicle health and status via the MyMazda app.
