Genesis GV60 Magma takes class win at Goodwood, production starts in 2025

The Genesis GV60 Magma Concept has taken out a class win at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, sprinting up the famous hill climb in record time for a four-seater production vehicle.

Magma is the new performance sub-brand of Genesis. Think of it as like BMW’s M and Mercedes’s AMG brands. You’ll soon see Magma enhancements on Genesis road vehicles and a number of full-blown Magma models.

As such, the GV60 Magma Concept has been designed to showcase the potential. It features the twin-motor electric system from the flagship GV60, developing a combined 360kW and 700Nm. This is enough to see 0-100km/h achieved in 4.0 seconds.

During the Goodwood Festival over the weekend, the concept sprinted up the hill climb in 53.5 seconds, piloted by race driver driver Gethin Jones. That was quick enough to secure a class win for four-seater production cars, and 16th place overall.

The concept shows off a unique bodykit with pumped wheel arches, bespoke lowered suspension, awesome custom wheels, and a unique front bumper bar and grille system. Speaking about the triumph at Goodwood, Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre managing director, Tyrone Johnson, said:

“This win is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our development teams at HMETC, and the collaboration with our global team in Namyang, and we are thrilled with the results achieved at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend. The development continues, so we know there is more performance to come.”

Genesis confirms a showroom model, based on the concept, will go into production in 2025. It will be the first Magma model. However, Genesis has also shown us the G80 EV Magma Concept which could hint at a production model of the near future.
