The Genesis GV60 Magma and G80 EV Magma concepts will make their dynamic debut in front of crowds at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed next month. This will be the first time we’ll get to see the new performance sub-brand showing off its potential.
Magma is the upcoming performance sub-brand of Genesis. Think of it as like Hyundai’s N division, or BMW’s M division for that matter seen as Genesis is a premium brand. We’ve already seen the GV60 Magma concept, with its pumped out bodywork and race-inspired wheels and aero.
Earlier this year Genesis unveiled another Magma concept based on the G80 Electrified large sedan. These two have so far only been static propositions, but soon we’ll get to see how they actually perform during the Goodwood Festival weekend, running July 11-14.
Genesis will be taking part in the Shootout Sunday event for the first time, with timed runs up the famous hillclimb. The G80 EV Magma as well as the G70 Nurburgring Taxi will also be sprinting up the hill twice a day over the weekend, and they will be on display in the First Glance Paddock in between. Lawrence Hamilton, managing director of Genesis Motor Europe, said:
“With the festival’s rich history and passionate audience, it is a perfect opportunity to demonstrate the capabilities of our newly launched Magma program with dynamic hill climb runs, highlighting our modern and refined approach to performance.”
So far no specifications or mention of any power enhancements have been officially sent out on these cars. In its flagship form, the GV60 AWD Performance develops 360kW and 700Nm, which is enough for a claimed 0-100km/h time of 4.0 seconds.
Meanwhile, the G80 EV Magma concept, unveiled at the Auto China show in April, is based on the stately G80 Electrified. The standard model produces 272kW and 700Nm from its twin-motor setup, good for 0-100km/h in a claimed 4.9 seconds.
Although these are only concept cars, they are set to pave the way for future performance variants in the Genesis showroom. We particularly like the idea of the G80 performance sedan, which could be a BMW M5 rival, sort of, only with a more luxury-minded focus.
