Cupra Tavascan fully electric SUV confirmed for Australia

CUPRA Australia has confirmed it will be introducing the all-electric Tavascan SUV in early December, months ahead of its initial expected arrival. The expedited release is thanks to a streamlined homologation process and the advantage of its production location being close to Australia; it’s built in China.

The Tavascan will be offered with two powertrain options; a 250kW ‘VZ’ dual-motor all-wheel drive configuration, and a 210kW Endurance rear-wheel drive setup. Both variants promise impressive performance and driving dynamics, aligning with Cupra’s emphasis on delivering an engaging driving experience. Ben Wilks, Cupra Australia’s director, said:

“With its progressive and emotional approach to the SUV coupe segment, head-turning exterior lighting, a uniquely-Cupra interior, and an all-new immersive sound system from Sennheiser, the Tavascan elevates the all-electric SUV coupe to new heights.”

The SUV features distinctive exterior lighting with copper highlights as per the brand’s theme, with alloy wheels measuring up to 22 inches.

Inside you’ll find a bespoke Cupra interior with sporty seats, more copper highlights, and a Sennheiser sound system. There’s also a 12.9-inch touch-screen tablet on the dash running VW Group’s latest running system. Full Australian specs and features are yet to be confirmed.

To give you an idea of the new model’s size, the Tavascan is underpinned by VW’s MEB platform, which is also shared with the VW ID.4 and ID.3, the Cupra Born, and the Audi Q5 e-tron and Audi Q4.

Australia will actually be among the first markets in the world to welcome the new model. It’s designed in Barcelona but manufactured at Volkswagen Group’s Anhui facility in China.

Prospective buyers can register their interest at Cupra’s dedicated Tavascan website to keep up to date.
