Ford has dusted off one of its most celebrated and historic nameplates, normally reserved for a sports car and slapped it on an electric coupe-SUV in the form of the 2025 Ford Capri.
Based on Volkswagen’s MEB architecture shared with the ID.3, ID.4, ID.BUZZ and Ford Explorer, the Capri boasts up to 640km of range and an 0-100km/h time of 5.3 seconds. Available with either single motor with 210kW, or 250kW in twin-motor spec, the new Ford Capri can be had with either 77kWh or 79kWh batteries, with fast charging at up to 185kW.
The range is superior to the more conventional and blocky Explorer, thanks to superior aerodynamics of the tapering roofline. You can also spot some VW resemblance on the front side profile, particularly around the headlights and bonnet.
There are a few references to the original Capri, with the oval shape of the side windows, headlamp and grille motifs that evoke the original, as well as a sporty rear end appearance. The interior is dominated by a 14.6-inch tablet-style touch-screen and a screen in front of the steering wheel for the instrument panel.
Ford says there is 17L of storage in the ‘megaconsole’ and up to 527L of boot storage thanks to a false floor. A B&O speaker bar sits on top of the dash, while the only sporting pretensions might be the squared-off steering wheel and one-piece bucket seats.
Pricing is yet to be revealed but it is not confirmed or likely to hit Australian shores any time soon.
