GWM has announced the new 2024 Haval Jolion for Australia, showcasing an updated design while continuing to offer budget-friendly prices for both petrol and hybrid powertrain options.
The Haval Jolion has been a very successful model line for GWM in Australia. So far this year (through May), the local arm has delivered 5826 examples to customers. That makes it the third-best-selling model in the ‘SUV small below $45,000’ category, according to VFACTS figures.
Two front-wheel drive petrol variants are part of the mix, including the Premium and the Lux. Both use a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder developing 105kW and 210Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch auto. Strangely, these offer an official fuel consumption rate of 8.1L/100km – not far off the big and heavy Ford Ranger V6 diesel (8.4L/100km).
Three front-wheel drive variants of the hybrid are on offer as well, from the Premium, Lux, to the Ultra. These feature a 1.5-litre petrol paired with an electric motor assist system, offering a combined output of 140kW and 375Nm.
An official fuel consumption average is listed at 5.1L/100km, which is reasonable for this class but far from the lowest for a hybrid compared with its rivals. For example, the FWD Hyundai Kona Hybrid uses 3.9L/100km and the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid with AWD uses 4.4L/100km.
As before, the 2024 Jolion comes packed to the brim with features and luxury-minded goodies. All variants come standard with a 10.25-inch touch-screen infotainment system offering Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (both wired), as well as adaptive cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring, and a full suite of safety features.
It’s great to see GWM has introduced a fully adjustable steering column with the update as well, so drivers can pull the steering wheel closer, not just move it up and down.
Going for the hybrid variants brings in a new exterior package, not just a facelift like on the petrol model. It is based on the same platform, however, with the same powertrain as before. The new-look front end introduces a wider front grille, with new headlights and taillights, and redesigned bumper bars.
All models also showcase a new, more prominent GWM badge on the back as part of the brand’s push to reinforce the parent brand – expect to see more of this with other models in the future.
The new model is on sale now from the following prices (drive-away):
