Germany’s sport auto YouTube channel has just put together another one of its awesome Supertest videos. This time taking the new Toyota GR Supra GT4 100th Edition Tribute around for a hammering lap.
The Supra GT4 100Th Edition features a six-speed manual transmission, which makes for a very engaging driving experience. Test driver Christian Gebhardt appears to enjoy shifting gears, and the ratios seem to suit the long Nurburgring circuit.
There are times where Gebhardt leaves it in third gear, relying on the engine’s 500Nm of torque to pull it through. Around the back of the circuit, up through Kesselchen, fifth gear has no trouble taking it up to around 220km/h.
The GT4 100th Edition Tribute is, as the name suggests, a tribute to the GT4 race-ready model. It’s available in Europe only and features the exclusive Plasma Orange exterior. A set of 19-inch lightweight wheels in matt black, black brake calipers and rear spoiler complete the look. It is similar to the US-spec Supra 45th Anniversary Edition.
In Europe the GR Supra features the 3.0-litre turbo inline-six BMW engine in 250kW tune – in Australia it was updated to produce 285kW a few years ago. The special edition also comes with the six-speed manual as standard. There is no special treatment for the engine in the GT4 Tribute edition.
However, Toyota applied a unique suspension tune for the special edition, adding more rigid rubber in the front and rear stabiliser bars, recalibrating the dampers, and adjusting the steering system to suit.
Around the challenging circuit, the Supra posted a lap time of 7:54.11. That puts it in line with vehicles such as the 2005 Ferrari F430 F1 (7:55), the 996 Porsche 911 Turbo (7:56), and the 2014 BMW M5 Competition (7:54). Click play below to see how it went.
