2024 Toyota GR Supra update announced in USA, adds 45th Anniversary Edition

Special edition celebrates 45 years of the Supra nameplate

Toyota has unveiled the 2024 (MY2024) update for the GR Supra in the USA, including announcing a retro special edition that celebrates the 45th anniversary of the nameplate.

Firstly, the GR Supra 45th Anniversary Edition. This falls on the fourth year of the fifth generation Supra’s production, conveniently, and it’s dressed in a special Mikan Blast (orange blast, in Japanese) paintwork complete with a black graphic that runs up the sides featuring the Supra logo. This is all designed as a tribute to the MkIV model.

The special edition also showcases an adjustable rear spoiler which sits about 76mm above the deck, as well as a set of matt black 19-inch aluminium wheels. The brake calipers are also painted in black. If customers are not interested in the vibrant orange, Toyota is also offering Absolute Zero (white) for the body.

Other highlights for the special edition include orange strut braces under the bonnet, and a unique build plaque that indicates its 1-of-900 status.

As for the rest of the MY2024 update, Toyota is introducing a new Hazelnut leather trim colour option for a more luxurious look, and the Toyota Connected Services is standard across the range. Toyota says the Connected Services suite can be activated on existing 2020-2023 models as well, as long as they have the hardware installed from production.

Toyota has given all models a light suspension tune for 2024, with a focus on balancing body roll and ride comfort. Some tweaks have also been made to the mechanical components of the electric power steering system to support agile handling.

In the USA, the GR Supra is offered with a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder that produces 190kW and 400Nm. Matched to the same eight-speed auto as the 3.0L engine, the 2.0L sprints from 0-60mph (97km/h) in around 5.0 seconds (Toyota estimate). Going for the 2.0L engine cuts the overall vehicle weight by around 90kg.

The 3.0-litre turbo inline-six continues as well, producing 285kW and 500Nm. It is being offered for the first time in the USA with a six-speed manual. This option was introduced in Australia about six months ago.

Toyota Australia is yet to announce any local details regarding the 2024 update, but market arrival before the end of the year seems like a pretty reasonable bet. It’s unknown if we’ll get the special 45th anniversary edition.
