Audi RS 6 Avant GT unveiled with more power, coming to Australia later in 2024

Looking to buy the ultimate station wagon? You’ll like this. It’s the 2024 Audi RS 6 Avant GT and it has been confirmed for Australia.

The RS 6 Avant is also one of the most desirable performance cars on the market, thanks to its sculpted, muscular design and immense power and grip from the combination of a twin-turbo V8 and thorough all-wheel drive system.

Well, the team at Audi Sport thought it could do even better for the platform by creating the GT special edition.

It has been designed and inspired by a project put together by 12 apprentices at Audi back in 2020. They created the RS 6 GTO concept car, which, itself, was inspired by the Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO racing car from 1989.

Aside from showcasing a more serious bodykit with a new intake system, vertical blades in the front end, and a more aggressive front splitter, Audi Sport has also fit a bespoke carbon fibre bonnet, carbon front guards with special air pressure release vents, and a new rear diffuser.

The roof rails have also been smoothed over for a wider and cleaner look, and there’s a set of custom 22-inch wheels in white. Customers will also be able to option for special decals, in traditional Audi Sport black, grey and red.

This isn’t just a cosmetic exercise, either. Under the bonnet the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 has been boosted so it develops a whopping 463kW and 850Nm (similar to the motor in the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT), up from 441kW and 800Nm. This enables the cool wagon to cover 0-100km/h in just 3.3 seconds and 0-200km/h in 11.5 seconds – that’s 0.3 and 0.5 seconds quicker than the standard model.

All of that grunt is of course sent through Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system via an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic. The gearbox has been retuned to offer optimised shift times, and the AWD system includes a locking centre differential. Up to 70 per cent of the power can be sent to the front axle, or up to 85 per cent to the rear axle, if the demand calls for it.

The GT comes with adjustable coilover suspension as standard as well, with the ride height lowered by 10mm for an even fatter stance. At the front, the stabiliser bar is 30 per cent stiffer, and 80 per cent stiffer at the back. Customers will also have the option to specify Dynamic Ride Control or RS adaptive air suspension if they prefer.

Just 660 examples are set to go into production for global markets, and Audi Australia has confirmed “extremely limited numbers” will be available locally. It arrives in the second half of 2024. Prices and allocation details will be confirmed in the near future.

UPDATE: Audi Australia has confirmed just 22 examples will be made available locally, priced from $399,000 (excluding on-road costs).
