The no-so-little 2024 Suzuki Jimny XL has launched in Australia, bringing a 5-door option to the market for those looking for a plucky, go-anywhere SUV. It comes as Suzuki Australia confirms the return of the auto 3-door model back to the market. It was previously on hold due to supply constraints.
As you’d expect, the new Jimny XL five-door model is pretty much as the same as the existing lineup, only with two extra doors to provide easier access to the second row of seats. It’s the most practical Jimny ever, in other words. But it does bring some mild updates as well.
Inside, there’s a new 9.0-inch touch-screen media interface running wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, and it offers digital radio. Rear parking sensors have been added along with a next-generation Dual Camera Brake Support System (DSBS II) to improve safety. Adaptive cruise control is added as a result, for auto models only.
Two versions are hitting the local market although they are exactly the same, except one features a five-speed manual and the other uses a four-speed auto. Both feature the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine as the 3-door model.
It produces a mighty 75kW and 130Nm, which is good enough for a 0-100km/h time of 12.02 seconds with the manual, according to our Vbox tests. Since the 5-door model is larger, and likely a bit heavier, we’d expect a 0-100km/h time of around 13 seconds for the big brother.
Local buyers are being offered six different exterior colours for the new version, including Artic White, Bluish Black Pearl, Chiffon Ivory (with black roof), Granite Grey, Jungle Green, and Sizzling Red (with black roof). Suzuki Australia general manager, Michael Pachota, spoke about the new model in a statement, saying:
“With the addition of XL to our Jimny line up we’re giving drivers the best of both worlds – legendary 4×4 performance and the extra space and versatility for that ‘eXtra Large’ adventure. The anticipation for the launch of this car has been crazy to say the least, and we can’t wait to see thousands of them on Australian roads in 2024.”
