Skoda Australia has confirmed it will be launching the new Enyaq RS performance EV next year, boasting a 250kW powertrain.
The 2024 Enyaq update has debuted in Europe showcasing SUV and fashionable coupe SUV body styles, with a smattering of performance-inspired highlights for the new RS variant (called vRS overseas). It continues on VW Group’s MEB platform, shared with vehicles such as the Cupra Born and Audi Q5 e-tron.
Power comes from a 77kWh battery pack that sends energy to a twin-motor drive system that combines to produce 250kW. This makes it the most powerful Skoda production vehicle in history. Acceleration from 0-100km/h is claimed in just 5.5 seconds – also the quickest Skoda ever.
With a full battery charge the WLTP-certified range is a decent 547km. However, if you want more range Skoda Australia confirms it will be launching a second variant.
Called the Enyaq 85 (previously the 80), the intermediate variant features a single rear-mounted motor that generates 210kW. It’s no slouch, either, offering a claimed 0-100km/h run in 6.7 seconds. The range for this model is listed at 576km.
Both variants can take in a charge rate of up to 175kW using a DC fast-charger, which can top up the battery from 10-80 per cent capacity in around 28 minutes.
Going for the RS variant adds in a bespoke aero kit for the exterior, large alloy wheels, and a fittingly-enhanced interior with sports seats in the front, contrast stitching, and sporty pedals and steering wheel trimmings.
Skoda says the 2024 update (previous model not offered in Australia) brings in a more advanced battery and thermal management system, with the ability of pre-heating, upgraded electric motors, and an updated ‘4.0’ infotainment system inside with new graphics.
Speaking about the new model and its anticipated arrival, Skoda Australia’s head of marketing and product, Kieran Merrigan, said:
“Both the 210kW and 250kW Enyaq are the most powerful Skoda models we have ever offered, while delivering among the longest electric vehicle driving range in the electric medium SUV segment.
“Skoda customers are also among the most discerning and progressive in the market, and the Australian love affair with RS badged product continues. Together this tells us that our performance and technology flagship, as an appealing SUV, will be warmly welcomed into the market from mid next year.”
The Skoda Enyaq is scheduled to go on sale in Australia in July 2024. Prices and final local specs will be announced closed to its launch.
