Following the big news last week of the 2024 Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series, with its new 2.8-litre four-cylinder option paired with an automatic transmission, some more info and specs have just landed in our inbox.
According to a national dealer bulletin, the 2024 LandCruiser 70 Series will see the deletion of the base WorkMate grade with the 1VD-FTV V8. It looks like only the 1GD-FTV 2.8L engine will be available on the Workmate in Australia.
A power antenna will be introduced for the GXL grades, replacing the old manual type, while the classic cigarette lighter and two ash trays inside will unfortunately be deleted on all grades as well – these were charming reminders of its legendary roots, in our opinion.
Also for the exterior, the GXL looses its chrome front grille and instead gets a black item, which we’ve already seen via the official images, and buyers of the LC76 wagon body style will be offered Eclipse Black as a paint colour option.
All models will come with LED headlights and LED daytime running lights, with auto high-beam and manual levelling adjustment on all. The GXL adds LED front fog lights.
Moving inside, an extra USB port has been added on GXL models, but it looks like one USB has been deleted on the GX and WorkMate. However, we suspect it means the deletion of one USB and replaced by two perhaps or replaced by USB-C type (the bulletin doesn’t specify). USB-C ports have been added on the GXL as shown in the image below.
Wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also being introduced, as previously announced, and the driver and passenger get a map light each on all grades. A 6.7-inch touch-screen is also standard, as previously confirmed.
In terms of safety tech, the 2024 LandCruiser 70 Series welcomes road-sign assist (RSA), lane departure alert (LDA), downhill assist control (DAC), and there’s a rear-view camera on the wagon body styles only.
The new model will be available from September 2023 production, while Toyota Australia has officially said it will launch during the fourth quarter of this year. Prices are yet to be revealed.
