Toyota Australia has just announced quite a significant update for the 70 Series LandCruiser for 2024, introducing an automatic transmission option for the first time and a 2.8 four-cylinder engine option.
Yep, Toyota Australia is finally offering an automatic transmission option for its rugged and highly popular 70 Series. It’ll be available with the new 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine option.
The 2.8L engine is borrowed from various models within Toyota’s showroom, and produces 150kW and 500Nm. This is 1kW less than the 4.5-litre turbo-diesel V8, which continues on, but with 70Nm more torque.
The six-speed auto will no doubt improve the 70 Series LandCruiser’s overall cross country comfort and refinement, as it is a newer engine and is set to offer reduced fuel consumption over the 4.5 V8. Speaking about the new model, Toyota Australia’s president of sales and marketing, Sean Hanley, said:
“Now with a new powertrain including an automatic transmission for the first time, along with the significant increase in safety and convenience technology, the LC70 is an ideal vehicle for those working on the land or as a tool of trade and recreational users heading off on an outback adventure.”
Also new for the 2024 70 Series is an updated exterior. It includes some fancy LED headlights and a fresh bumper bar. It’s still a big chrome bar and is designed to reference the classic 40 Series model.
Inside, Toyota has introduced a new 6.7-inch touch-screen system on all grades, supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There’s also a 4.2-inch display for the gauge cluster. Road sign assist, auto high-beam, and lane departure alert have also been included as part of the Toyota Safety Sense suite.
The 2024 Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series will go on sale during the fourth quarter of 2023. Prices and further specs are yet to be confirmed, but it will be available in Workmate, GX, and GXL trim levels, across four body styles.
