How’s this for a dream car garage? A rare group of historically important Ferrari race and road cars are up for sale in the UK, including an F40 and F50.
Known as ‘Scuderia ’89 – The Pursuit for Paddle’, the collection spans Formula 1 prototypes through to landmark road cars, all from a period when Ferrari’s motorsport innovations began flowing directly into its production models. The set is being presented by UK specialist Furlonger and is expected to fetch over £20 million (about AU$40 million).

At the heart of the collection are two Formula 1 cars. The 1988 Ferrari 639 F1 is a factory prototype developed to trial Ferrari’s first semi-automatic gearbox, representing the earliest use of steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles in an F1 context. Alongside it sits the 1989 Ferrari 640 F1; the first Ferrari to race with the new transmission, driven by Gerhard Berger.
Perhaps the most desirable in the mix is a 1989 F40. Widely regarded as one of the brand’s most influential supercars (and one of the most legendary outright), the F40 has been described as being like a go-kart with a twin-turbo V8 engine. No touch-screens, no traction control, just raw (and probably laggy) 2.9L turbo V8 insanity. It produced 352kW in its day and weighed just 1100kg.

Another iconic model in the collection is a 1996 F50, featuring a naturally aspirated V12 closely related to Ferrari’s F1 race engines. The F50 was not celebrated as highly as the F40 but it is still a very important vehicle, commemorating Ferrari’s 50th anniversary. The V12 produced 382kW when new.
Completing the group is a 1998 F355 Spider. This was the first Ferrari road car to offer a paddle-shift gearbox. It also features one of the best-sounding road-car engines ever made. Nestled behind the cabin is a 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V8 producing 279kW at 8250rpm. You could get these with a manual as well.

All vehicles here are presented in original condition, with Ferrari Classiche certification where applicable. Some have appeared at major international events in recent years.
The ‘Scuderia ’89’ collection is being offered strictly as a single package, with no individual sales planned. Head over to the listing here for more info or to place your bid.
