The dual-cab 4×4 ute segment is certainly heating up, and soon Nissan will launch its all-new 2026 Navara which is undergoing extensive testing and tuning right here in Australia.
In collaboration with Melbourne-based engineering firm Premcar – the same team responsible for Nissan’s Warrior off-road variants – the upcoming Navara has undergone a comprehensive suspension development program across a wide range of terrain. Testing was carried out on sealed and unsealed roads, with and without payload, and under towing conditions to ensure balanced performance in real-world scenarios.

The new model is expected to borrow plenty from the latest Mitsubishi Triton, likely including its updated twin-turbo 2.4-litre diesel engine. In the Triton the engine produces 150kW and 470Nm. Tim Davis, Nissan Australia’s senior manager for local product development and enhancement, spoke about the development in a statement, saying:
“In Australia and New Zealand, the ute is just part of life – the weekday workhorse, the weekend adventurer, even the school drop-off. So we can’t just take a ute from another market and assume it’ll fit. It has to be fine-tuned because the conditions we face are totally unique to this part of the world.”

According to Nissan, the updated suspension calibration enhances comfort and confidence whether laden or unladen, maintaining stability across both urban and off-road driving, compared with the outgoing Navara. The new setup aims to achieve an ideal balance between capability and refinement. Warwick Daly, deputy director of marketing and mobility for Nissan Australia, said:
“For almost four decades, we’ve been engineering and thoroughly evaluating cars locally, including generation on generation of utes and off-roaders. It’s about ensuring Australians and New Zealanders can have complete confidence – knowing your vehicle will perform when and how you expect it to.”
The locally tuned Navara will be backed by Nissan’s 10-year/300,000km ‘MORE’ warranty when serviced through authorised dealers. Further details, including specifications and pricing, will be announced closer to its 2026 showroom arrival. The full reveal will take place on November 19.
