The interior of the upcoming Ferrari EV previously known as the Elettrica, now confirmed the Luce, has been revealed and it is an absolute knockout.
A striking departure from recent Ferraris such as the Purosangue, Amalfi and 812 Testarossa, it is the work of design royalty Jony Ive and Marc Newson. Their company, LoveFrom, was tapped for the project. Both designers are credited with some of Apple’s most iconic products such as the G3 iMac, iPhone and iPod – and iconic is the operative word here.

First impression is breathtaking with a retro-style steering wheel incorporating two indicator switches, ‘mannettino’ drive mode switch arranged in two separate pods with ADAS, damping and wiper switches. It sits within what appears to be a steering column knurled from an aluminium block with a retro instrument binnacle courtesy of Samsung Display.
Font and layout are evocative of the Jaeger instruments from the 1960s and 1970s Ferrari catalgoue. It consists of two wafer-thin OLED panels to create the illusion of depth.

The rotating infotainment screen sits on an aluminium platform with bordered and chamfered edges (a hallmark of Ive’s Apple designs) and includes physical buttons for the glass bubble clock, toggle switches for climate and what appears to be a volume knob.
This is a masterclass on how to keep tactile user-friendlieness alive within the modernity of a touch-screen. The centre console is also masterclass in tactility, where the glass Ferrari key is depressed to start the car, changes colour and a stubby gearknob shifts left from park to drive. It also incorporates power window and locking switches as well as luggage compartment access.

Many people doubted the sheer concept of a Ferrari electric car, as it seemed contrary to brand ethos, but it is safe to say they have blown everyone’s minds with this awe-inspiring effort.
