We bet you didn’t have this on your bingo card today; Great Wall Motors (GWM) is preparing a supercar, with the model being previewed on Chinese social media platform, Weibo, by chairman Wei Jianjun.
A picture of executives posing next to the cloaked supercar shows something with low, sleek and wide proportions, typically associated with a mid-engined layout. One can’t help but make comparisons with Porsche, with a similar shape for the headlights, what appears to be a large intake scoop behind the door and hood ducting to divert air over the glasshouse and roof of the car.
The overall silhouette, to our eyes, looks like the 9ff – a tuner spec, mid-engined Porsche 911 from the late 2000s.

GWM would join BYD’s Yangwang U9 in offering a supercar, with the SC-01 in May also proving China is getting serious about sports cars with enthusiast appeal.
No powertrain details have been firmed up yet, but chief technology officer, Wu Huixiao, said the car would feature a carbon fibre chassis and better performance than the SF90 at Auto Shanghai in April.
For reference, the Ferrari SF90 combines a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with three electric motors for a combined system output of 735kW, with an eight-speed DCT. It weighs 1570kg and performs 0-100km/h in 2.5 seconds with a top speed of 340km/h.
Interestingly, a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 PHEV powertrain was showcased at Auto Shanghai 2025, which firms it up as a favourite to propel this new supercar but details are scant at this stage.
GWM has also called on “European track experts” to help out with handling development, which probably means a tilt at the Nurburgring record is inevitable. We will bring you more details as they come to hand.
