Volkswagen has unveiled a new factory performance option for the 2026 model year Golf R in Australia, called the Warmenau package. It’s a $6500 upgrade designed to enhance its hot hatch appeal.
Named after the Wolfsburg suburb that houses Volkswagen R’s development centre, the Warmenau pack introduces several track-inspired enhancements, starting with a set of lightweight forged 19-inch alloy wheels.
Engineered by Volkswagen R, the new rims cut unsprung weight by 20 per cent – dropping 2kg to just 8kg per wheel – while their open-spoke design also helps cool the brakes more efficiently during spirited driving or track use.
The Warmenau edition also marks the return of the Akrapovic exhaust to the Golf R. This titanium system not only saves 7kg over the standard pipes, but delivers a distinctive, aggressive soundtrack that sets it apart from other hot hatches. Four circular tailpipes sit proudly at the rear.
Inside, the package brings genuine carbon fibre trim to the dashboard and door panels – a material exclusive to the Golf R within the Volkswagen lineup. Volkswagen Australia’s head of product, Arjun Nidigallu, said:
“Australia is a very significant market globally for Volkswagen R and now the Warmenau package gives Australian customers the opportunity to own the definitive version of the ultimate performance Golf.”
Offered on the upcoming MY26 Golf R, the Warmenau package builds on an already extensive standard equipment list that includes Adaptive Chassis Control, IQ.LIGHT Matrix LED headlights, 4MOTION with R-Performance Torque Vectoring, and a 245kW/420Nm 2.0-litre turbo engine paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch auto.
Dealers are now taking orders, with first deliveries expected later this year. Prices start from $70,990 for the MY26 Golf R and then add $6500 for the Warmenau package.
